Recognizing AGC Members Since 1919
In 1918, the Associated General Contractors (AGC) was founded in Chicago. After 100 years of forward-thinking, today it represents more than 26,000 firms and 10,500 chapters across the nation. BirdDogHR, as the only Affinity Program Provider for the AGC, extends our congratulations to AGC on its impressive impact on the construction industry!
On Oct. 1, the AGC hosted its sold-out Centennial Celebration in Washington, D.C., and recognized six loyal members who have been with AGC since the beginning: JP Cullen, The Christman Company, Koss Construction, Weldon Materials, The Weitz Company and Walbridge.
From BirdDogHR to these six Centennial members: Congratulations on your legacy of leading and striving for more. Your success demonstrates not only your fortitude and vision, but also AGC's role in fostering success in the industry. Cheers!
JP Cullen, est. 1894
A fifth-generation family-owned business, JP Cullen extends its founding principles of saying "Yes!" to a challenge to today's operations. Having taken on the most challenging projects from sectors ranging from government and healthcare to education and entertainment, JP Cullen showcases its "Living Lean" philosophy across all work. Leaving Lean is more than a suggestion, it's a way of life. It means that JP Cullen's processes are pared down to the ones that add value, and not just as jobs start. JP Cullen doesn't just do work - it improves work, always.
The Christman Company, est. 1894
The Christman Company began under the values of Heinrich G. Christman, a German immigrant who began a small "teamster and excavating" service. After his untimely death, his 17-year-old son and his younger brothers took over the company - a true American story that allowed a band of hardworking kids to build a company that would thrive into the 21st century. Two Christman brothers attended the 1918 Chicago meeting that would launch the AGS, and the Christman Company has attended every annual meeting since. Today, the Christman Company follows "the Christman way," a set of values that include honoring commitments, building lasting relationships, embracing passion and a competitive spirit, and being a great place to work.
Koss Construction, est. 1912
Though Koss Construction Co.'s 1912 beginnings were on a smallish scope, its future destiny as a creater of American roads was on the horizon. After World War II, during which the company stepped up to help the war effort with seemingly endless large military paving jobs, Koss Construction played a pivotal role in building America's interstate and airport infrastructure.
This was demonstrated in 1955, when George C. Koss (son of the founder and president of the AGC) testified to Congress about how President Eisenhower's vision for a national network of paved infrastructure could come to fruition. That vision changed America, and Koss Construction continues to leave its imprint on our roads.
Weldon Materials, Inc. est. 1890s
Weldon materials is a family-owned business in New Jersey. Though it began its journey as road and bridge builders, today Weldon supplies New Jersey's contractors with all the road and building materials they need to keep the state's infrastructure robust. With two hard rock quarries, Weldon Materials supplies ASTM approved aggregates, and it also operates nine hot mixed plants. Weldon Materials is committed to providing customers with the highest-quality materials and outstanding service, as it has done for the past 110-plus years.
The Weitz Company, est. 1855
The longest-established of the AGC's six Centennial members and the sixth oldest construction in the United States, The Weitz Company has more than 160 years of experience. Its national footprint spans 50 states and nine offices, and its specialties range from bioscience and healthcare to distribution, warehouses and senior living construction. The Weitz Company prides itself on delivering more than outstanding products and services, and focuses on upstanding principles such as doing business with integrity and honesty, respecting all people, keeping a long-term view of the future, and nurturing employee growth and job satisfaction.
Walbridge, est. 1916
In 2018, Walbridge was recognized as No. 48 in Engineering News-Record's Top 400 Contractors, and its breadth of experience in many construction sectors continues to lead the way in innovating on complex projects. Walbridge's more than 1,000 employees are committed to sustainable construction and the safest of workplaces - so much so, that the company has earned more than 70 safety awards in the past 10 years. As constructors who have contributed lasting buildings on four of our seven continents, Walbridge's legacy is secure as a long-lasting player in the construction and engineering field.
